Teen Epilepsy Weekend 2020
Registration for the March Teen Weekend has closed! Stay tuned for our Fall Weekend.
It's hard to be a teen with epilepsy - you may have questions about driving, dating, and what your future could be. Come to the Teen Epilepsy Weekend hosted by Epilepsy-Pralid & UR Medicine Pediatric Epilepsy Program and:
Interactive educational sessions are taught by neurologists from UR Medicine, EPI staff and trained volunteers and provide ample opportunity to ask questions. There is a strong focus on teaching teens about the importance of taking charge of their own health, so that your child will be more prepared to make good choices regarding their medical care when they transition from pediatrics to adult.
The Teen Epilepsy Weekend also focuses on developing important supportive social relationships to reduce the feelings of isolation that many teens feel - both among the teens and with our volunteer counselors as well. Supervision is provided by EPI's camp director Michael Radell and trained volunteer counselors who get it! Most of our adult volunteers have epilepsy themselves and understand what it's like to be a teen with epilepsy.
The cost is only $35 for the whole weekend and includes an overnight stay and all meals.
Parents - the weekend ends with a session just for you! Come at 10 am on Sunday to a facilitated Q&A session with a medical expert where you can ask the tough questions about how best to support your teen. You will also get a chance to meet other parents dealing with the challenges that parenting a teenager with a complex medical condition can bring.
Teen Epilepsy Weekend is the brainchild of Dr. Inna Hughes, a pediatric neurologist from UR Medicine. This program would not be a possible without her support and expertise. Dr. Hughes coordinates the educational presentations and recruits additional medical experts to attend.
If you have any questions about attending, please contact Michael Radell at (585) 442-4430 x2741 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
